Jan 24, 2012 vs Pace A curious call and a curling free kick goal were all Pace needed to end the Mosley season in the regional quarterfinals. An evenly contested game featured opportunities by each team but the defenses and keepers kept it scoreless until four minutes remained. At that point, a handball was called at the top of the 18-yard box, and after a period of debate, a Pace midfielder hit a curving shot over the wall and into the left corner for the lead. The Dolphins were not finished and continued to press the attack, earning a corner at virtually the last moment. Mosley sent everyone forward, including keeper Emily Grammer, who got a head on the cross from Rachel Bates but put it inches wide. Each team had a good opportunity in a 90 second span during the second half. First, Pace took advantage of a corner to put the ball bouncing into the box. Defenders Stephanie Henson and Kirsten Allen blocked the Patriots and a shot toward a seemingly open goal was parried out of danger by Grammer. Mosley freshman, Elizabeth Vickers then received and pass and drove down the field, straight in at the Pace keeper. The keeper went to the ground and deflected the shot across the box. Seven seniors wore the Dolphins jerseys for the last time: Allen, Kaitlyn Blais, Ellie Buttram, Grammer, Henson, Molly Thompson, and Emily Vogler. That group helped to compile a four-year record of 73-12-2, 50 wins by shutout. In games in which the Dolphins scored at least one goal, the record is 73-3-2. |
Jan 19 2012 vs Chiles Playing for the eighth time in Tallahassee this season, Mosley nipped Chiles, in overtime, to clinch a third district championship in four years. Playing for the first time without senior, leading scorer, Emily Vogler, the Dolphins out-shot the defensive minded hosts, 21-3, but many of the 11 shots on goal were directly at the keeper. The Mosley defense and midfield controlled the run of play for much of the contest, fighting through some rough play to keep the pressure on the Timber Wolves. Late in the second half, Chiles began to play even more defensively, apparently settling for overtime. Mosley Coach Betkowski made a strategic substitution for the overtime period, sending in junior Grace Underhill with directions to take all throw-ins. Underhill had plenty of action in the first, 10-minute period, and the long throws seemed to open up the offense a bit. Mosley got off four shots in the period but came up empty again. As the teams switched ends for another 10-minutes, the Dolphins decided not to play that long. Within 30 seconds, Stevie-Marie Mullins fired a cross into the box which was caught by the Chiles keeper. The clear-out was stolen by the Dolphins, sent back into the box where Mullins and Elizabeth Vickers waited. The ball bounced toward freshman Rachel Bates who fired a quick shot through the keeper for the win. The shutout was number 50 for senior keeper Emily Grammer—nine more than the previous school and county career record. The Dolphins finished with a 10-0 record v. teams in District 2-4A, outscoring the opposition, 38-2. |
Jan 17, 2012 vs Leon A Kaylin Thomas header, 10 minutes into the second half, held-up for a third victory of the season over Tallahassee Leon. Emily Vogler went down with a knee injury—later determined to be season-ending—as the Dolphins earned a corner. After a delay to tend to the injured senior, Rachel Bates drove the ball into the box where Thomas bent low to drive it into the net. The Lions had no answer; the only Leon shot of the night coming on a free kick. For the game, Mosley took 18 shots, seven on frame and took six corners to none for the Lions. On three other occasions, the Leon keeper had to collide with a Dolphin attacker to prevent a shot. At the end of the first half, Vogler took the ball from a Leon defender and broke free toward the goal only to be stopped by the rare, mid-attack whistle. |
Jan 10, 2012 vs Arnold Mosley went ahead, 3-0, and held on to defeat Arnold for the second time this year and to clinch a sixth consecutive County Championship. All three Mosley scores resulted from corner kicks by freshman Rachel Bates. Bates is the county assist leader. County scoring leader, Emily Vogler, scored in each half to pace the attack. The Marlins had an opportunity in the first minute, with a free kick from 30 yards, but the ball was easily handled by Mosley keeper, Emily Grammer. Freshman Stevie-Marie Mullins had two good shots in the first five minutes—one rebounded off the right upright and the second was tipped over the crossbar by the Arnold keeper. The resulting corner, was struck along the ground by Bates and knocked into the net by Vogler. Arnold had two shots in the next eight minutes but the Dolphins continued to press and scored again at the 12:55 mark. Sophomore Kaylin Thomas broke free for a 1 v. 1 which was deflected out for another corner. Bates sent the ball into the box, Vogler headed it up, and Thomas headed it in. Just three and one-half minutes into the second half, the Dolphins were up, 3-0. Another Bates corner, another Vogler goal. This one sailed into the area where Vogler chested the ball over the line. Mosley had two good chances in the seventh and eighth minutes but shot wide left each time. The teams traded possession until the Marlins scored, from the end line, just before the water break. Another Arnold goal, at the 27 minute mark, jacked-up the pressure, but the Dolphins would not be denied. |
Jan 6, 2012 vs Navarre The Dolphins shook off the injury bug and a three-week layoff to soundly defeat a very physical Navarre team. Molly Thompson got off two shots before suffering a knee injury six minutes into the game. Brie Campbell could only go 10 minutes. Grace Underhill had to temporarily leave the game after being hit with the ball. Leading scorer, Emily Vogler, was hampered by illness and could only manage 18 minutes in the second half. Still, Mosley out-shot the Raiders 22-2, and dominated in all facets. Vogler took the first shot, 90 seconds into the game, and scored the first goal in the 16th minute. Navarre’s best chance was in the 11th minute, after a foul was called 40 yards out; but a long kick bounced harmlessly to the Mosley keeper. About five minutes later, the Dolphins began a flurry which resulted in a score. A long ball, intended for Kaylin Thomas, was collected by the keeper, but Mosley kept up the pressure and forced a corner. That corner was played into the box by Rachel Bates and kicked around and out for another corner. This time, Bates launched a ball high to the far post where Vogler waited to head it past the keeper. The play that led to the second goal began in the Mosley defensive end. Kaitlyn Blais played a long pass to a streaking Stevie-Marie Mullins who easily won the 1 v. 1 contest. In the second half, Ginny Bennett consistently made runs down the right sideline, to keep the pressure on the Raiders. In the sixth minute, Bennett made one of those runs into the corner, and drilled a cross to Elizabeth Vickers who found the open goal for the final margin.
JV:
Win The young Dolphins came out a little rusty after a three-week break and suffered their first setback of the season at Navarre. A Taylor Gilmore goal, assisted by Gabby Krajniak, gave Mosley some life, down 3-1 at halftime. Krajniak goal from the penalty spot closed the gap to 3-2 but the Raiders scored again and the Dolphins could not overcome the lead. |
Dec 16, 2011 vs Leon Emily Vogler’s two goals, both unassisted, and a sturdy Mosley defense, paced the Dolphins to a perfect, 8-0, district record in the final game before the holiday break. Kristen Allen, Kaitlyn Blais, Stephanie Henson, and Danielle Santora led the defensive back line which held Leon to three shots on the evening. Early, the Dolphins were frustrated by being called off-side several times. But Mosley kept pressing the attack, and in the 18th minute, Vogler snagged a careless Leon pass and beat the keeper to the far post. The game rolled along, 1-0; the Dolphins rebuffing every Lion attack, and maintaining the majority of possession, but unable to score. Leon’s only shot in the second half, in the 17th minute, was as a result of a foul just outside the 18-yard box and sailed harmlessly over the goal. With just under 10 minutes left, Vogler gathered the ball in the offensive end and drove straight to goal. The Leon keeper was able to make the save, colliding with Vogler. Five minutes later, Vogler would not be denied. She took possession near midfield, split two defenders and fired a shot past the sprawling keeper for the clincher.
JV:
Win The Mosley defense held the hosts to one shot on goal and the Dolphins scored five to remain undefeated. The first shot of the game, by Regan Hamrick, assisted by Abby Southerland, resulted in a goal at the 2:23 mark. After giving up the equalized, the defense stiffened and the Dolphins took the lead on a Southerland goal, assisted by Gabby Krajniak. In the second half, it was all Mosley. Krajniak scored, assisted by Annie Wallace. Southerland netted her second goal, assisted by Abby Swatts. Haley Austill, assisted by Brittany Bush, capped the scoring. |
Dec 14, 2011 vs Rutherford The Dolphins came out of the gate fast and finished out county rival Rutherford in the first half. All 10 Mosley seniors started the game and the first six goals were scored by 12th graders. The starting line-up included Molly Thompson, Stephanie Henson, Ellie Buttram, Taylor Gilmore, Emily Vogler, Kristen Allen, Brittany Spivey, Kaitlyn Blais, Mallory Mullins, Emily Grammer, and junior Grace Underhill. Henson scored her first goal of the season in the fourth minute, finishing off a rebound of a Vogler shot. Nine minutes later, Vogler played a through pass to Thompson who carried the ball the last 30 yards before beating the keeper 1 v 1. Two minutes later, it was Vogler beating the Rams to the far post. Next, Vogler passed to Buttram who was able to settle and blast a shot too high for the keeper and a 4-0 score. Five minutes later, Stevie-Marie Mullins found Buttram in a similar position, 25 yards out. When the Rams failed to close the lane, Buttram ripped another long-shot goal. In the 32nd minute, Rachel Bates received a pass at the right sideline and worked left until she was open for the sixth goal. S. Mullins was next, taking a Bates pass and going far post. Just before half time, Ally Southerland received a S. Mullins cross and ended the game. Senior night ceremonies included Mosley boys Coach Dave Skakal announcing each girl, who walked through a tunnel of younger teammates to meet family members and the coaches at the sideline. Each senior received a gift bag from the booster club and many photos were taken. |
Dec 12, 2011 vs Choctaw Perhaps it was a hangover from the disappointment of the Timber Wolf Classic or a result of playing a fourth game in four days; but the Dolphins came out flat and off their game against an infrequent foe. Mosley had eight shots on goal in the first half but could not find the net. Shots hit the crossbar, flew over, and rolled to the keeper without the usual power. Still, the Dolphins controlled the run of play, took four corners to none, and allowed only one shot by the visitors. The second half was more evenly contested though physical and neither team seemed a threat to score. In the 27th minute, Mosley could not successfully clear a Choctaw shot and gave up a corner. The ball flew across the penalty area to a streaking Indian who scored the only goal of the game. As the clock ticked down, the Dolphins seemed energized and made a furious attempt at an equalizer. A shot wide, another over the crossbar, an offensive foul called in the box, a collision between the Choctaw keeper and a Dolphin, burned up the last few minutes and Mosley was defeated and deflated.
JV:
Win On a cold night, ten days after their last game, the Mosley JV remained unbeaten with a win over Choctaw. Gabby Krajniak’s penalty kick goal was the only score of the first half but the Dolphins pulled away with two in the second half. Again, the Mosley defense was strong, allowing only four shots on goal. Regan Hamrick assisted Abby Southerland to make it 2-0 in the second half and the Dolphins seemed to be cruising until Choctaw sneaked in a goal. Not to worry, as Mosley countered very quickly with another Krajniak goal, assisted by Haley Austill. |
Dec 9-10, 2011 vs Timber Wolf Classic An Episcopal goal 1:08 into the game seemed to shock the Dolphins and they could not get untracked against the Jacksonville team. It was the first deficit for Mosley this season, and the Episcopal quick passing game frustrated and confused the Dolphins. It was 2-0 after five minutes and 3-0 after 21 minutes. Mosley tightened-up on defense but could only get off two shots in the first half. The Dolphins out-shot the opponent, four to three, in the second half and an Ellie Buttram goal in the 33rd minute kept Mosley from being shut out. Rachel Bates played a long pass to Buttram who split two defenders and fired a hard shot from close range. Emily Vogler was named game MVP by the Episcopal coach.
Varsity:
Loss Our Lady of Lourdes was the first opponent from an all-girls school in recent memory. The Miami team was very physical and very good at setting up shots, taking 23 in the game, 13 on frame. The Dolphins managed four shots, Ginny Bennett, assisted by Emily Vogler accounting for the only Mosley goal. Vogler drove the ball downfield and laid off to Bennett who was true in the 32nd minute of the second half. Keeper Emily Grammer set a season-high for saves with 11. Vogler was named game MVP.
Varsity:
Loss ESPN’s number four ranked team proved to be as good as advertised and took it to a disappointed Mosley side in the final game of the weekend. The Dolphins were out-shot 26-1 and could not put a shot on frame. Emily Grammer, who played the first half in goal, was named game MVP. |
Dec 2, 2011 vs Lincoln Three Emily Vogler goals and a smothering defense helped the Dolphins clinch the number one seed in the District 2-4A playoffs. Mosley scored the only needed goal in the 10th minute as Elizabeth Vickers looped a pass over the defense to a streaking Vogler, who found the net from a seemingly impossible angle. Fifteen minutes later, a nice combination play made it 2-0. Brie Campbell passed to Rachel Bates who moved the ball to Vickers who passed to herself, drove to the corner and crossed to Vogler who scored. Just over two minutes later, Campbell controlled an errant Lincoln pass on the left sideline and fired a long angle pass which set-up Vogler for her second hat trick in two games. For the game, the Dolphins out-shot the visitors 19 to seven, though five of the Lincoln shots were on frame. The best opportunity for the Trojans was the result of a lapse in concentration. Emily Grammer came out to play a back pass from a Dolphins defender and kicked the ball to a Trojan. Defender Kaitlyn Blais jumped into the breach, played on-the-ball defense across the arc, and kept the Lincoln forward from getting off a good shot.
JV:
Win Gabby Krajniak and Regan Hamrick teamed up for two goals to help the Dolphins remain undefeated. The pair scored first in each half and the Mosley defense kept Lincoln off-guard all night. Doshia Gandy had two saves in the second half. A Brittany Walker corner set-up an Abby Southerland goal and Brittany Bush capped the scoring, assisted by Brittany Bush. |
Nov 29, 2011 vs Lake City Columbia Senior Emily Vogler and freshman Elizabeth Vickers each scored a hat trick in another district road win. Eleven of 25 first half shots were on-frame and four found the back of the net. In the 12th minute, Vogler crossed to Vickers who beat the keeper at the far post. Less than one minute later, sophomore Kaylin Thomas looped a long pass to Vogler who finished for a 2-0 lead. Seven minutes later, freshman Rachel Bates drove a corner kick into the box where Vogler’s head drove it into goal. Not quite two minutes later, senior Ellie Buttram sent a pass to Vogler who scored again. At the water break, Mosley was up, 4-0, with Vogler scoring three goals and assisting on the other. Five players substituted at that time and worked the rest of the half on passing and organization. Five minutes into the second half, it was Thomas to Vickers for an upper 90 shot and goal. Three minutes later, senior Molly Thompson banged a hard shot off the keeper and Vickers finished for goal number three. At the 14 minute mark, freshman Rachel Bates was wrestled down in the penalty area and Emily Grammer successfully converted the penalty kick. The game ended in the 18th minute when Thompson earned her second assist of the night, feeding Thomas who fired long and across the front of the goal and in. The Mosley defense did not allow a shot during the game.
JV:
Win The junior Dolphins overcame a sluggish start to completely control the contest and push the season’s record to 4-0-1. Perhaps it was the four-hour bus ride or the low Sun in their eyes, but the Mosley girls looked a little out-of-sync at first. Columbia scored early in the contest but that seemed to energize the Dolphins. Mosley began to find room to move the ball and started firing shots from close in and from far away. Harley Peters scored the equalizer and when Abby Southerland netted the go-ahead goal, the game appeared to be decided. Taylor Gilmore made it 3-1 before Madison Stream passed to her twin, McKenzie Stream for the final score. Other assists were by Brittany Walker and Regan Hamrick. |
Nov 28, 2011 vs Arnoldt On a cold, rainy night at Panama City Beach, the Dolphins scored an early goal and then broke open a tight game with three second half scores. In the first minute, Arnold was awarded a free kick in the offensive end but it was cleared by the Mosley defense. For most of the rest of the evening, the Dolphin defenders and midfielders kept the Marlins at bay and the Mosley offense kept up the pressure. The Dolphins broke out on top in the seventh minute when Emily Vogler took a Rachel Bates pass and beat the keeper at the far post. Bates and Vogler teamed up for a 2-0 lead, in the third minute of the second half. Bates played a long, through pass to Vogler who easily beat the keeper. Before the water break, Arnold’s two best opportunities were turned away. A free kick from 20 yards out was rejected by the wall and a hard, high shot was saved by Emily Grammer. A few minutes later, Brie Campbell made a long pass to Ginny Bennett who beat a defender and the keeper. With three minutes, left, Elizabeth Vickers played a long, through pass to Haleigh Swift who powered a shot through the keeper for the final score. |
Nov 21, 2011 vs Chiles Mosley began the second lap around district 2-4A the same way the first began: with a win over long-time rival Chiles. A three minutes, three goals stretch all but iced the game in the first half, though there was plenty of drama at the end of the game. At the 21 minute mark, Dolphins keeper Emily Grammer picked-up a roller high in the area and quickly threw a pass to Emily Vogler near midfield. The action seemed to catch the Chiles defenders flat-footed and Vogler ran through three Timber Wolves and the keeper before passing the ball into the net. Two minutes later, a Vogler shot trickled past the keeper and Kaylin Thomas cleaned it up for a 2-0 lead. In the next minute, the Mosley midfield got possession, and Thomas passed to Rachel Bates who fired from distance for the third goal. At the half, Mosley had out-shot the visitors 11-1 and seemed to be in command of the game. Eight minutes into the second half, Haleigh Swift crossed from deep in the corner, to Vogler who beat the keeper at the far post. Fifteen minutes later, a Chiles handball led to a hard free kick by Ellie Buttram which was deflected to Molly Thompson who scored. At the 26 minute mark, Mariah Rinehart went into goal with the responsibility of preserving the shutout. At the same time the Timber Wolves began to press the attack, combining passes, throwing numbers forward, and taking long shots. Rinehart was up to the task. She made five saves, three of the diving variety, and sent Chiles away disappointed. This was shutout number 42, the Mosley record and believed to be the county record, for Grammer.
JV:
Win The junior Dolphins remained undefeated by handing Chiles a second 2-0 defeat on the season. Gabby Krajniak scored twice, assisted by Brittany Walker and Lindsey Tew. The Mosley defense was stout requiring keepers Sammii Boardway and Doshia Gandy to make just one save. The Dolphins have allowed just one goal on the season. |
Nov 18, 2011 vs Lake City Columbia Mosley was not a welcoming host for new district foe, Columbia, controlling play throughout the shutout victory. The Dolphins fired 24 shots—15 on frame-in the first half, and allowed only one, but led only 1-0 after 40 minutes. The Fighting Tigers had the ball in front of the Mosley goal in the first minute but only threatened once more in the first half. The Dolphins forced the keeper to make a handful of tough saves but often fired the ball right at her. The only goal was scored by Emily Vogler, who headed in a Stephanie Henson cross in the 10th minute. The second half was similar to the first, with the Dolphins holding a 22-1 edge in shots. A three minutes, three goals, spurt effectively put the game away. At the 15:18 mark, Danielle Santora made a pass to Vogler whose hard shot was just inside the far post. In the 17th minute, Vogler’s pass was struck hard by Brie Campbell and grazed a defender on the way to goal. Ninety seconds later, Vogler made a run and beat a final defender and the keeper to find the net. Ellie Buttram took a pass from Kaylin Thomas and added a long goal, through the keeper’s hands. Molly Thompson followed a Campbell shot which rebounded off the keeper and scored from short range. Mosley keeper Emily Grammer recorded her 41st career shutout; tying a school record. |
Nov 16, 2011 vs Leont Leon got off a shot in the first minute but managed only two more shots the rest of the game as the Dolphins’ defense controlled the action. Mosley took 37 shots, 16 on-frame, and recorded goals by four different players. In the 10th minute, a Rachel Bates corner into a crowd was headed into goal by Ginny Bennett. Three minutes later, another Bates corner began a combination play in which Emily Vogler touched the ball to Stephanie Henson who moved it to Kaylin Thomas who scored. Leon’s goal was a temporary set-back for Mosley but about 15 minutes later, Henson looped a pass over a defender which Bennett knocked in for a 3-1, halftime lead. The second half was all Dolphins. Elizabeth Vickers was fouled in the box and Vogler converted the penalty. Five minutes later, Vickers took a Haleigh Swift pass and beat the keeper at the near post. A second Vickers goal, unassisted, pushed the score to 6-1. Swift’s pass to Vogler, who fired the shot through the keeper, ended the scoring.
JV:
Win A stout, Dolphins defense allowed no shots on goal and the hosts found the back of the net six times in the rout. The lead was 2-0 at the half. Harley Peters scored twice, assisted by McKenzie Stream and Abby Swatts. Brittany Walker added two goals and an assist. Starting keeper Mariah Rinehart took a pass from Walker, made a move past a defender and rifled a shot past her counterpart for the fifth goal. A long, curving shot by Heidi Nix capped the scoring. |
Nov 15, 2011 vs Rutherford The Dolphins needed just over 45 minutes to win the county opener, 8-0, over Rutherford. Despite juggling the line-up, Mosley controlled the game, out-shooting the hosts, 34-0, with 20 shots on goal. Making her first appearance, freshman Stevie-Marie Mullins made a long throw-in which Haleigh Swift banged in at the 2:40 mark. Less than two minutes later, Ally Southerland’s hard shot clipped a defender and flew into the back of the net. In the ninth minute, Southerland weaved through several Rams and fired into the goal for a 3-0 lead. Next, Rachel Bates converted an Elizabeth Vickers cross. Later, Bates made a long pass to Emily Vogler which the senior gathered and then beat the keeper 1 v 1. Rutherford never quit and played hard but the Dolphins were too much in the second half. One minute in, Mullins took a Vogler pass and chipped over the keeper for her first Mosley goal. Two minutes later, senior Molly Thompson finished the deflection after a Vickers corner. The game ended when Vogler headed a Mullins pass into goal. Junior Sammii Boardway and freshman Mariah Rinehart made their official debuts in goal |
Nov 10, 2011 vs Lincoln The Dolphins played their second game in Tallahassee with the same result: a district win. Played on a narrow field on a cold, crisp night, the game was hotly contested for 80 minutes. Mosley controlled possession until the first water break and then was in a dog fight the rest of the way. Freshman Elizabeth Vickers scored with 10:21 left in the first half--beating the keeper at the near post--and the Mosley defense made that hold up the rest of the way. The back line of seniors Emily Vogler, Kristen Allen, Kaitlyn Blais, and sophomore Danielle Santora turned away nearly every thrust by Lincoln; limiting the hosts to four shots on goal. Senior keeper Emily Grammer charged out to grab a dangerous, high ball played into the box, in the final minute, to preserve the win.
JV:
Tie After a scoreless first half, aided by Sammii Boardway’s six saves, the Dolphins took the lead with a Haley Austill goal. That lead would not hold up as the Trojans managed a second-half score. |
Nov. 2, 2011 vs Chiles A dominating performance by the Mosley defense and a flurry of shots led the Dolphins to a 4-1 district and season-opening win over Chiles. Mosley took 18 shots and put 13 on frame while holding the Timber Wolves to only three shots in the second half. The first goal was scored in the 11th minute as a Ginny Bennett lob bounced over the keeper and Molly Thompson out-fought two defenders to put it in. Five minutes later, Bennett took a long, through pass from Emily Vogler, got past a defender and then beat the goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead. The Dolphins took a 3-0 lead 90 seconds before halftime when Danielle Santora lofted a pass to Elizabeth Vickers, who beat the keeper, one v. one. The only lapse of the game allowed Chiles to score with 29 seconds left. Emily Grammer saved a shot at the top of the box but the Timber Wolves were more aggressive with the rebound and not even a super effort by Vogler could keep the ball out of the net. Mosley answered four minutes into the second half when Rachel Bates headed a ball to Bennett who again beat the keeper for the final margin.
JV:
Win The junior Dolphins hit the road with a 2-0 win at district rival Chiles. Mosley controlled the game and despite failing to convert a penalty kick, rode goals by Harley Peters and Brittany Bush to the victory. Regan Hamrick assisted both goals. Mariah Rinehart started in goal and had three saves. Doshia Gandy saved two in the second half. |
Oct. 27, 2011 vs Arnold Emily Vogler increased her preseason tally to five in a shutout win over Arnold. The Dolphins fired three shots in about 90 seconds, about 10 minutes into the game. Freshman midfielder Rachel Bates assisted Emily Vogler’s scoring strike in the middle of that attack and Mosley held a 1-0 halftime lead. The Dolphins defense seldom allowed a real threat while the offense controlled the run of play throughout. The second goal was a seeing-eye free kick by Vogler which seemed to thread through a group of Dolphins and Marlins players before finding the inside of the far post. Mariah Rinehart made her debut in goal with 14 minutes to go. |
Oct 23, 2011 vs Bay Six players made their Mosley varsity debuts in a win over Bay. This was the first match of old rivals in three seasons. Sophomore Kaylin Thomas opened the scoring, heading a Rachel Bates corner into the back of the net at the 20:30 mark of the first half. Next, Emily Vogler scored the first of her three goals, taking a pass from Thomas and making a run from midfield before beating the keeper and making the first-half score, 2-0. The Dolphins scored again, 5:10 into the second half. Elizabeth Vickers sent a cross which bounced off the keeper and Vogler was there to put it in. Vickers assisted Bates in the next score, Haleigh Swift assisted Vogler for number five, and Swift drilled a shot off the cross bar which Molly Thompson knocked in for the final margin. Bay had only two serious opportunities: a one v. one which was stopped by Emily Grammer at the top of the box, and a free kick which sailed wide. Sammii Boardway and Kristen Allen also saw their first varsity action. |
Girls Summaries 2010-2011
Feb 4, 2011 vs Fleming Island The Mosley season came to an end on a foggy night, on a muddy field, in the regional final. Fleming Island was big, fast, and skilled and took the attack to the Dolphins from the opening whistle. The Golden Eagles played a short passing game but also played kick and chase effectively. Mosley hustled, scrapped, and scrambled but struggled with Fleming Island's pace and precision. The home team kept firing on goal, once hitting the cross bar, and four times drawing saves, before the leading scorer gathered a pass at the top of the penalty area, moved from behind a screen, and fired into the lower, right corner of the net in the 22nd minute. For the game, Fleming Island out-shot the Dolphins, 15-7, but Mosley put up a fight to the final whistle. Twice in the second half, aggressive Dolphins' play resulted in free kicks, in scoring position, but the Golden Eagles were up to the task. Perhaps the best opportunity was a Chelsey Williams kick which was too-hot-to-handle for the Fleming Island keeper, but the rebound was surrounded by home jerseys and cleared easily. |
Feb 2, 2011 vs Niceville Mosley won for the third consecutive time at Niceville, knocking the Eagles out of the regional tournament for the second straight year. The Dolphins faced an aggressive Niceville squad and a very strong wind in the first half but only allowed one shot on goal--a free kick. Every Mosley kick into the air died in the wind and Niceville kept up the pressure but the Dolphins were up to the task; chasing down every lose ball, stopping every run, blocking every pass. During the halftime break, the wind died to a stiff breeze, and Niceville opened up the attack, managing 10 shots, four of which required saves by keeper Emily Grammer, another was cleared off the goal line by Amber Gray. With pressure mounting on both teams, it was the Eagles who cracked. In the 73rd minute, Kady Kriner launched a corner into the box, the Niceville keeper could not handle it cleanly and Chelsey Williams was there to bang it into the net. Mosley had to hold on for seven minutes and continued to press the attack. In the 76th minute, Williams was dragged down in the penalty area but the call was to "play on." The last Eagles' thrust ended when Emily Underhill darted from the back to clear the ball to the other end of the field. The Dolphins were headed to the regional final again. |
Jan 27, 2011 vs Pace Before every game, the Dolphins gather in a circle and recite several inspirational phrases, including: “Don’t get down if we get behind.” Until this game, Mosley had not played behind all season. Due to a late-arriving bus, the team warm-up and pre-game gathering were curtailed and there was no chance to repeat the mantra. The Dolphins seemed a bit sluggish early on and, in the 14th minute, they faced their first deficit of the season. A Pace corner found the head of an unmarked defender who poked it into the net for the lead. The goal seemed to spur Mosley’s effort. Defenders Kaitlyn Blais and Haley Moore started winning every ball, sweeper Emily Vogler, and stopper Amber Gray, intercepted every cross or pass, and keeper Emily Grammer stood firm. In the 23rd minute, Hannah Nix, who consistently beat the Patriots in the corner all night, played a through ball to Chelsey Williams who beat the keeper for her 36th goal of the season. Ninety seconds later, Williams played a cross out to Mary Ellen Garner who put the Dolphins in the lead. The momentum had definitely changed and Mosley began to control the run of play. Just before the whistle, Williams was slammed to the ground in the box but play continued. Williams stayed on the ground for several minutes but walked off to applause from the noisy, Dolphins’ fans. In the second minute of the second half, a foul was called just outside the penalty area and Pace converted. The first player passed around the wall to the Patriots’ 37-goal scorer who fired into the corner for the tie. That turned out to be the last gasp for the home team. About two minutes later, a Williams corner fell loose in the Pace box where Nix tapped it in. Later, Nix crossed and Williams played the rebound into her 37th goal. The last score was the result of a Nix cross which Emily Underhill slid into and drove into the net. |
Jan 21, 2011 vs Niceville In a tightly played game on a narrow, middle school field, Niceville’s goal in the eighth minute of overtime ended Mosley’s two-year run as district champs. The Dolphins had won six and tied one against the Eagles in the past three seasons but could not find the net in the district final. In the 23rd minute of the first half, Dolphin senior Chelsey Williams hit a high shot that ended up in the corner of the net and was initially called a goal. It was waved off, though, when an official ruled the ball had travelled over the cross-bar and dropped though a hole in the net. The game was stopped for several minutes while the goal was repaired. The width of the field squeezed the run of play into the center and frustrated both offenses. Play opened a bit in the second half. In the 17th minute, Williams was knocked down hard in the box but play continued. In a three-minute span, beginning around the 21st minute, Niceville took four consecutive corner kicks. The first two were parried over the cross-bar by keeper Emily Grammer; the third resulted in a shot from about 15 feet that rebounded off the bar for another shot which was cleared by the Dolphins defense; and the fourth was caught by Grammer. Each team had an opportunity with a free kick in the waning minutes. Niceville’s shot from 35 yards was easily caught with four minutes left. Mosley’s shot, in the 38th minute, sailed over the bar. Defenses controlled the overtime until a Niceville player broke free for a 1 v 1 with Grammer who blocked the shot. A trailing Eagle swung at the rebound and her high, curving shot, found the upper, right corner for the winner. |
Jan 18, 2011 vs Crestview The Dolphins advanced to the district championship for the third consecutive year with the 10th shutout of the season. Three goals in the first eight minutes set the tone and allowed Mosley to substitute seven players at once. Chelsey Williams started the scoring by dribbling along the end line and easily beating the keeper. Next, Kady Kriner's free kick perfectly fed Hannah Nix who tapped it in. Then, Mary Ellen Garner fired a high shot that the keeper could not handle. In the 18th minute, the line-up turned over, with JV call-ups Danielle Santora, Ally Southerland, and Ginny Bennett among those entering the game. Kriner and Williams combined for the first goal of the second half. It was goal number 35 of the season for Williams, tying her previous season high in the 2008-09 campaign. Kriner's left-footed blast into the upper 90 made it 5-0 and Kriner picked up her third assist with a cross to Emily Vogler who drove it to the back of the net. |
Jan 14, 2011 vs Lincoln Not to be outdone by the JV girls, the Mosley back line, led by Emily Vogler, Kaitlyn Blais, Haley Moore, Amber Gray, and Brooke Wilke, did not allow a Lincoln shot. Mary Ellen Garner scored first. Chelsey Williams headed a ball which Hannah Nix slid to Garner. Next, Nix worked the ball down the sideline and crossed to Williams who fired a shot back across and inside the far post. Williams scored again, taking an Emily Underhill pass and beating a defender before putting the ball in the back of the net. It only took three minutes in the second half to push the score to 4-0. Williams worked the ball along the end line and angled a pass to Kady Kriner who needed just one touch for the goal. Nix was next, taking a pass from Kriner, firing a shot which was blocked and following up with the score. Shortly thereafter, Ellie Buttram was knocked down in the box, setting up a penalty kick. The kick was blocked by the Lincoln keeper who was injured on the play. The visitors seemed to make little effort thereafter and the sixth goal was kicked into the net by a Lincoln defender. Emily Vogler and Buttram each scored against little resistance and the game ended early.
JV:
Win The jayvees completely dominated their final game of the season, controlling the run of play throughout. The defense shut down the Lincoln attack and allowed the offense to keep the ball in the offensive end. Keeper Sammii Boardway had a relaxing evening while Haleigh Swift and Ginny Bennett scored the goals. |
Jan 12, 2011 vs Leon Mosley dominated the first half of play, taking 17 shots, but the rust of a four-week layoff was evident, and the half ended in a 2-2 tie. Chelsey Williams scored her 30th goal of the season in the 7th minute; gathering a pass from Hannah Nix, chipping the ball over a defender and the keeper, and then touching the ball into the open net. Leon tied the game in the 14th minute on its first opportunity. A corner was not cleared and bounced around the box before a Lion knocked it in. Ten minutes later, Williams worked the ball around the left side and slid a pass to Nix who banged it in. A Leon penalty kick in the final minute tied the score. The second half was 11 minutes old when Emily Vogler worked the ball up the field and slotted a pass to Mary Ellen Garner who fired it just inside the left post. A minute later, Williams passed to Kady Kriner who blasted a strong shot into the back of the net. In the 17th minute, Williams gathered a loose ball and left-footed it off the keeper for the fifth Mosley goal. 90 seconds later, Vogler beat a defender and threaded the ball to Kriner who shot into the middle of the goal. Kriner’s third goal was a blast just under the crossbar. With about two minutes left in the game, Emily Underhill found Vogler who was tackled in the box. Vogler converted the penalty kick for the final score.
JV:
Win The JV girls ran their record to 8-2-2 with an 8-1 pasting of Leon. The game was tied at the half before the Dolphins exploded for 7 in the second half. A Kaylin Thomas hat trick led the way. Ally Southerland scored twice. Emily Cureton, McKenzie Stream, and Haleigh Swift each chipped in one. |

Dec 15, 2010 vs Arnold The Dolphins celebrated senior night with a win over Arnold and a fifth consecutive county championship. Seniors honored were: Mary Ellen Garner, Hannah Nix, Chelsey Williams, Haley Moore, Emily Underhill, Amber Gray, and Jenna Jackson. This group has compiled a record of 63-8-6. Williams took a Kady Kriner pass and beat the keeper 1 v 1 to score her 100th goal. An enthusiastic group of fans waved posters with “100” printed on them but had little time to relax. Shortly, Hannah Nix was knocked down in the box and Williams scored the penalty kick to make it 2-0. Five minutes later, Nix crossed and Williams recorded her sixth hat-trick of the season. Jackson received a pass from Molly Thompson, turned and fired it past the keeper for a 4-0 halftime lead. The Marlins did not manage a shot in the first half. Williams was at it again, after a long run led to a shot into the lower left of the goal 12 minutes into the second half. Kriner’s free kick over the keeper made it 6-0. A combination play led to a fifth Williams goal of the night and the final score. Stephanie Henson played the ball down the right side to Nix who crossed to Williams for the score. Garner had moved to the center and occupied the defense to allow Williams to shake loose. Back-up keeper Annie Henriquez calmly handled Arnold’s only two shots on goal to preserve the shutout. |
Dec 14, 2010 vs Ft Walton Beach Mosley scored in the second minute and Niceville scored 1:17 after halftime. The teams parried back and forth the rest of the way but ended in a deadlock. Kady Kriner crossed to Hannah Nix who booted the ball into the back of the net. The Dolphins continued to pour on the attack and had several good opportunities in the next few minutes but could not finish. Emily Grammer was forced to make four saves and the defense got behind every ball to keep the Eagles off the board in the first half. Just after halftime, Niceville flooded the box and scored. The rest of the way, the teams boomed long passes over the midfield only to find the opponent’s defense strong. The game featured frequent stoppages and 28 direct kicks. Mosley clinched no worse than a tie for top seed in the district tournament.
JV:
Tie Playing on artificial turf, in a game that was moved-up two hours due to expected, extreme cold, the Dolphins moved to 4-1-2 with a second consecutive tie. Haleigh Swift's corner was banged in by Kaylin Thomas, to give Mosley a 1-0 lead in the first half. Sam Boardway had four saves but a Viking goal in the second period wrapped-up the scoring. There was little drama at the very end of the game and the home team seemed happy with the tie. |
Dec 10, 2010 vs Niceville Mosley scored in the second minute and Niceville scored 1:17 after halftime.
JV:
Tie Ally Southerland scored in the first half but the Dolphins could not convert on any of several other opportunities and a second-half goal allowed Niceville to escape with a tie. Late in the game, each team raced into the offensive end but neither could break the deadlock. Keeper Sam Boardway's catch of a long, high ball, in the last minute, saved Mosley from defeat. |
Dec 8, 2010 vs Rutherford The Dolphins' defense posted a seventh consecutive shutout to defeat Rutherford, 5-0. Chelsey Williams continued her hot streak with four goals and an assist. On the coldest night of the season, so far, Rutherford played much of the first half with 10 players back on defense. Mosley took 17 shots in the first half but did not break through until Williams drove in from the left side and shot into the opposite side of the net. Six minutes later, Hannah Nix fired a low cross from the right which Williams punched past the keeper. Minutes later, Wiliams gathered a loose ball in the box and scored her third. Kady Kriner, assisted by Williams closed the first half scoring. Williams scored her fourth, and number 98 in her Mosley career, by volleying an Ellie Buttram corner in the 11th minute of the second half. |
Dec 7, 2010 vs Crestview Two Dolphins scored hat tricks and the defense put up a sixth straight shutout as Mosley moved to 10-0 for the first time in recent memory. Brie Campbell crossed to Mary Ellen Garner who volleyed in the first goal in the 17th minute. Less than three minutes later, Katy Kriner’s strong cross was volleyed home for the first of three Chelsey Williams goals. The score was 3-0 after Kriner played a through ball to Williams who slotted it into the net. One minute later, Garner played a ball which Williams gathered and scored her 19th goal of the season. It was Hannah Nix hitting a short corner to Williams who fed Kriner for the fifth goal of the first half. In the fifth minute of the second half, Kriner scored her second by working through the defense from the left side and firing a ball too hot for the keeper to handle. Next, Ellie Buttram launched a corner targeting Garner who headed it into the net. The game ended with 23 minutes to go when Kaitlyn Blais fed the ball to Kriner who beat two defenders and the keeper.
JV:
Win The junior Dolphins, playing with only 12 players due to freshman ball, controlled play throughout and took a slim, 1-0, lead into the final minute. Taylor Gilmore scored the first Mosley goal and the offense continued to pressure the home team until Stormie Banks scored, assisted by Grace Underhill, just before the whistle. |
Nov 23, 2010 vs Rutherford Chelsey Williams picked-up her third hat trick of the season and the Dolphins moved to 2-0 in county contests with a win over Rutherford. Six different Mosley players scored before the game ended in the 18th minute of the second half due to the mercy rule. For the second consecutive game, the Dolphins defense did not allow a shot on goal. Just five minutes into the contest, Mary Ellen Garner worked the ball down the sideline and passed to Williams who tapped to Kady Kriner who found the far post. Four minutes later, Garner threw the ball in to Williams who kicked it hard through the keeper. Williams scored again in the 16th minute, beating the keeper one-on-one. In the 25th minute, Williams played a corner which Emily Underhill volleyed into the back of the net. Jenna Jackson scored the fifth goal of the first half, taking a pass from Molly Thompson and chipping over the keeper. The second half scoring started with Garner and Williams working a give-and-go that ended with the 16th Williams goal of the season. Five minutes later, Hannah Nix headed in a Kriner corner. The game ended on a penalty kick in the 18th minute. Emily Vogler gathered the ball in the defensive midfield and carried through the defense until she was tackled in the penalty box. Vogler easily scored the PK and sent everyone home early. |
Nov 20, 2010 vs East Ascension The Dolphins dominated this one from the start, with first-half goals by four different players. Just two and one-half minutes into the game, Kady Kriner launched a corner which was fumbled by the keeper and Hannah Nix tapped in the loose ball. Next, Brie Campbell scored for the first time this year after a Kriner cross. Just over a minute later, Emily Underhill played a ball into the box which Chelsey Williams headed to Kriner who drove in the third goal. Emily Vogler swapped positions with Williams and played a pass to Nix who slotted it back to Vogler who tallied her first goal of the season. In the first half, East Ascension frequently attempted to work the ball through the right side of the Dolphins’ defense. Each time, Haley Moore was up to the task, and eventually, the Louisiana team tried the middle and the left side where Vogler was a stone wall and Kaitlyn Blais turned away every challenge.
|
Nov 20, 2010 vs Jensen Beach In an early morning match on a dewy field, a Chelsey Williams goal in each half was enough to drop the Falcons, 2-0. The first goal, in the eighth minute, was set-up by a long, through pass from Hannah Nix. Williams sped past the last defender, gathered the ball, and beat the keeper from about 20 yards. The Dolphins’ defense continued to play strong and limited Jensen Beach to three shots on goal, one of which was headed off the goal line by Nix. The victory was sealed with about 15 minutes left in the game when Kady Kriner worked the ball through the defense and fired a pass which deflected off a Falcon defender to the feet of Williams who calmly poked it into the net.
|
Nov 19, 2010 vs Bartram Trail In an very competitive game between evenly-matched teams, the Dolphins beat last season’s 4A state runner-up on a Chelsey Williams goal in the 29th minute. Williams dribbled toward the goal from the left side and fired a low shot that the keeper could not handle. The lead was in jeopardy throughout but the Mosley defense turned away the attack again and again. Sweeper Amber Gray went out with an injury in the 19th minute and did not return. Emily Vogler dropped back and was powerful and quick to lead the defense. Keeper Emily Grammer was tested by six corners and numerous balls in and out of the 18-yard box and was forced to make nine saves. |
Nov 16, 2010 vs Ft. Walton Beach The Dolphins finished the first lap around the district, 3-0, by cruising to a 6-0 win over Ft. Walton Beach. The Vikings started fast, pressuring the Mosley defense and controlling the pace of the game, but it was all Dolphins after the water break. In the 23rd minute Mary Ellen Garner beat the keeper but a Vikings defender headed the ball off the line. Hannah Nix gathered the ball in a crowd and drove it into the goal. The Dolphins scored again when Chelsey Williams played a cross from the corner to Nix who volleyed it home. Garner scored next, using her body to drive a Kady Kriner corner past the keeper. Just over a minute into the second half. Williams bounced a shot off the keeper, and dropped the rebound to Emily Underhill who found the open net for a 4-0 lead. Three minutes later, Kriner dribbled along the end line and drove a low shot off the keeper’s hands into the goal. Williams ended the scoring in the 13th minute. Kriner got a rebound from a corner and threaded a pass to Williams who easily scored her 10th goal of the season.
JV:
Win The junior Dolphins’ defense controlled the Vikings attack and two Kaylin Thomas goals provided all the offense needed. Most of the game was played in the Ft. Walton Beach end and Danielle Santora and Grace Underhill seemed to stop every run down the line. Ally Southerland and Ginny Bennett added assists. |
November 11, 2010 vs Crestview For the second night in a row, Chelsey Williams had a first-half hat-trick to lead a Dolphins victory. The win gave Mosley a 2-0 district record and set-up a showdown with Ft. Walton Beach next week. This was a dominating performance by Mosley, which out-shot the visitors, 31-4. The first Williams goal was set-up by a cross from Kady Kriner, the second by Hannah Nix carrying the ball through much of the Bulldogs’ defense before dropping off a pass. Ellie Buttram angled a pass from the midfield to put Williams in position for number three. Nix, with a cross from Mary Ellen Garner, made it 4-0, 10 minutes into the second half. Crestview scored with two-minutes left in the game.
JV:
Win In a totally dominant performance, the young Dolphins built on a 1-0 halftime lead to shut-out the Bulldogs. Ally Southerland blasted the ball into the net from 25-yards and the defense, led by Danielle Santora, Hailey Austill, and keeper Sam Boardway, made sure that was enough. In the second half, Southerland lofted a corner into the box where Taylor Gilmore headed it past the keeper. The final goal was the result of a Grace Underhill through ball which Haleigh Swift turned into a 1 v 1 win. |
November 10, 2010 vs Chiles Chelsey Williams had a hat-trick to lead Mosley past old, district foe, Chiles, and perhaps get a little revenge for tough, shut-out defeats the past two seasons. It only took four and one-half minutes for the Dolphins to get on the board. Emily Underhill made a long pass which the Chiles keeper tried to run to but Williams was too quick and fired the ball into the net. The next goal resulted from a looping, pinpoint Hannah Nix pass which Williams gathered in, went around the keeper, and made it 2-0. Five minutes later, Nix passed a through ball which Williams turned into a 1 v 1 victory. A Chiles forward tapped in a loose ball in the 28th minute of the second half and Amber Gray cleared a ball from the goal shortly thereafter. But the Timberwolves were out of chances. Kady Kriner, streaking past the defense, took a Williams pass and shot just before the final whistle for the fourth goal.
JV:
Win The JV got win number one with a cruising defeat of Chiles. The Dolphins scored all of the goals in the first half and worked on passing and technique in the second forty minutes. Ally Southerland led the way with three goals and an assist. Kaylin Thomas scored once and added two assists. Ginny Bennett and Haleigh Swift also notched goals with Swift, Dannielle Santora, and Kathryn Tayor chipping in assists. Keeper Sam Boardway was the loneliest player on the field, handling the ball just once. |
November 8, 2010 vs Niceville Emily Underhill’s long pass, from the midfield, caught the Niceville defense flatfooted and Kady Kriner streaked into open space, gathered the ball, and beat the keeper with a last-minute goal to lead Mosley to a 3-2 win. This was the Dolphins’ sixth consecutive victory over Niceville, including three on the Eagles’ home field. The first half was scoreless despite several opportunities for Mosley. Hannah Nix served some nice crosses but the Dolphins were unable to finish. Keeper Emily Grammer played many balls outside the box including deflecting a hard shot with her head. Seventeen minutes into the second half, Kady Kriner curled a corner kick to the head of Chelsey Williams who beat the keeper high for a 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, the Dolphins pushed the lead to 2-0 after Emily Vogler passed long to Williams who beat a defender and then the keeper. Niceville got on the board seven minutes later when a loose ball was blasted into the goal. The Eagles tied the game three minutes later on a penalty kick after a curious handball call. After Kriner’s game-winner, Niceville had one more chance after another handball was called but the free kick sailed over the cross bar and the whistle blew soon afterward.
JV:
Loss Niceville broke open a close game to hand the Jr. Dolphins a season-opening defeat. Haleigh Swift, assisted by Ginny Bennett, scored for Mosley. Keeper Sam Boardway had seven saves. |
November 3, 2010 vs Arnold The Dolphins overcame a rain storm and a 30-minute first half lightning delay to open the season with a convincing win over Arnold. Senior Chelsey Williams scored one goal and made plays that directly led to four others. Mosley sophomore Kady Kriner took a pass from Williams and fired it into the corner of the goal in the 10th minute. Less than a minute later, Williams struck a hard shot off the keeper and Hannah Nix alertly banged the rebound into the open net. Less than five minutes later, Williams and Nix combined for a 3-0 lead. This time, Williams drove the ball off the right post and Nix again picked-up the rebound. Lightning ran the teams off the field for 30 minutes before the referees restarted the action. In the 32nd minute, sophomore Kaitlyn Blais arched a long ball over the Marlins’ keeper for a 4-0 lead. Six minutes into the second half, Williams was at it again. She drove another shot off the keeper which Kriner finished. The score remained 5-0 until just after the water break when Arnold scored. The Dolphins responded with two more goals: Williams took an Emily Vogler pass and slotted it past the keeper and Ellie Buttram drilled a hard shot through the Arnold keeper. |
Girls Summaries 2009-2010
2009-2010 Season Recap Season recap: The Mosley Dolphins went into the 2009-10 season with a few question marks: How would they replace five seniors? Who would play sweeper and stopper? Would they build on the success of last season or rest on their laurels? Rain was a big factor throughout the season. One tryout day was washed out as were practices leading up to the season opener at Chiles. With only a 2-0 jamboree victory over Bay for game preparation, the Dolphins traveled to Tallahassee and were shutout, 1-0. The season would end, 100 days later, with another 1-0 defeat. Between those two losses, Mosley won 19 games, a fourth consecutive county championship, a second consecutive district title, and a first-ever region championship. The girls had little time to fret about the Chiles loss as perennial power Gulf Breeze was on the schedule, just two days later. Two first half, goals stood up for a 2-1 win and Mosley got on a roll, knocking off Ft. Walton Beach, Niceville, and Crestview. Two games with Bay and one with Arnold were washed out by rain and a week-long Thanksgiving break sent the Dolphins to the Timber Wolf Classic, in Tallahassee, with no game action for 15 days. The Dolphins went to Tallahassee as defending champs and left as a 4-3 team; looking for answers. One game was rained out. The only Mosley goal was scored on a penalty kick. Seven-time-defending district champ Niceville was next. Once again, the Dolphins stepped up and demanded to be recognized. Playing a home game at Tommy Oliver Stadium for the first time this season, Mosley outplayed Niceville from start to finish, and withstood a 35-yard shot and a penalty kick for a 3-2 victory. The Dolphins had their first of 15 straight victories. In a rainy, 8-0, victory over Ft. Walton Beach, Coach Jon Rhodes inspired the girls by telling them, “we’re back.” A mercy rule victory over Bozeman was followed by routs of Crestview, Rutherford(twice), and Leon, and a 3-0 win over eventual district one champ, Pace. Arnold fell, in a game in which the Dolphins defense only allowed two shots, and then Lincoln was beaten at the Trojans’ senior night. Mosley went into the district tournament, at Niceville, very confident. Crestview was dispatched and Mosley went for the title against the home team. Three first-half goals put the Dolphins in good position to once again hold off the Eagles, 3-2. Mosley was now district champ and hosting a quarterfinal regional game for the second year in a row. Navarre was beaten, 1-0, and Niceville came to town for game four. There was much reflection on the similarity between this situation and the fourth, 2009 match-up with Chiles. Many spoke of the difficulty of beating an opponent four times in one season; but the Dolphins would have none of it. An Eagle penalty kick matched an early Mosley goal but the result was never in doubt. The Dolphins won, 5-1, to advance to the regional final for the first time in school history. Gainesville Buchholz was no match and after a very exciting Friday night win, the Mosley Dolphins were headed to Tampa. Despite the semifinal loss, Mosley had an outstanding season: 11-0 in “home” games—played at four locations; undefeated—all games shutouts—in county competition; winners of 10 games by shutout. They won 40 games in the past two seasons. Anna Hall, who moved over to sweeper, has signed to play soccer at Rollins. Jennifer Hickman will play at Judson. Kat Vogler will play softball at Gulf Coast. Chelsey Williams led the team in scoring for the third consecutive year—despite missing four games due to injury. Freshman keeper Annie Henriquez stepped in to win the district tournament opener when Emily Grammer—who finished with 90 saves--was ill. Leah Vickers led the team in minutes played. Amanda Singletary scored four goals in one game. Kat and sister Emily Vogler combined for 26 goals. Julia Bond was a rock at midfield. Hannah Nix scored in the district championship game for the second consecutive year. Amber Gray stepped in at stopper. First year varsity players, Mary Ellen Garner, Evan England, Ellie Buttram, and Haley Moore gave valuable minutes. Freshman Kady Kriner proved to be a sparkplug. Emily Underhill suffered a season-ending injury in December but made a cameo appearance in the state semifinal. Jenna Jackson provided depth and a scoring threat. Call-ups Katie Geiger and Brie Campbell were tested by fire in the district tournament. Coach Rhodes announced that we will not return next season. He leaves with a four-year record of 66-10-11. |
Feb 12, 2010 vs Seminole (Final 4) In a game played in conditions which ranged from poor to ridiculous, Mosley saw its dream season end in a 1-0, overtime loss to Seminole. The Dolphins played hard throughout the rain-soaked contest, turning back challenge after challenge from the high-scoring opponent. Seminole outshot Mosley, 15-5, and held the Dolphins to just one shot after halftime. Mosley had a few good scoring opportunities in the first half but the wet conditions and a stingy defense kept the slate clean. Most times the Dolphins jabbed into the defensive third, Seminole defenders collapsed on the ball and prevented shots. In the final seconds of the first period, senior Kat Vogler launched a long, looping shot which almost cleared the keeper. Tension built in the second half with the teams moving the ball back and forth on the puddled turf. The Mosley fans may have outnumbered the fans from nearby Seminole. They certainly were heard from start to finish. Hearing anything was almost impossible in the exhausting last six minutes of regulation. The steady shower turned into a nasty, pelting rain which blew at the Mosley defense, knocking down any ball kicked into the air and forcing the Dolphins to cover their eyes when facing the other end of the field. Again and again, Seminole pushed the ball toward the Mosley goal only to be turned back by the Dolphins. The entire squad was forced to play defensively in an effort to survive. When 80 minutes ended with no score, hopes were raised that Mosley may be able to play overtime with the wind advantage. But, during the break, the wind died down, the rain slowed, and the great advantage lost. Four minutes into overtime, Seminole worked the ball deep down the left side where two Dolphins closed on the ball. The offensive player kicked the ball off the back of a Dolphin, recovered near the sideline, and sent an arcing cross into the six-yard box. Another Seminole player head-flicked the ball into the center where her teammate trapped and shot the winning goal. Seminole suffered a similar fate in the final, losing to ESPN's national No. 1, Melbourne, 2-1, in overtime. |
Feb 5, 2010 vs Gainesville Bucholtz Mosley’s 15th consecutive win captured the Region One championship and sent the Dolphins to the state final four for the first time ever. In the first known meeting of these teams, there were no shots until more than eight minutes were played. Chelsey Williams made a run to earn a corner kick, Kady Kriner played the ball into the penalty area, and Williams volleyed it over the bar. The Buchholz offense was limited to attempts to convert long free kicks. Julia Bond headed a ball, over a defender, recovered and fired off a shot which was stopped by the keeper. Soon, Bond was able to play a long ball to Williams who beat two defenders with a nifty move and fired the ball, past the keeper, just inside the far post, with just over 13 minutes left. Six minutes later, Williams fired a shot which seemed destined to beat the keeper but a defender got a thigh on the ball to deflect it. Leading, 1-0, with the wind at their backs in the second half, the Dolphins came out firing. Less than three minutes into the final period, Kriner sent another corner across the goal mouth and Kat Vogler flew in to head the ball over the keeper for a 2-0 lead. Buchholz threatened twice in the 33rd minute. A corner was played in front of the goal but Mosley keeper Emily Grammer went high in a crowd and snatched the ball despite being knocked to the ground by an opponent. Less than a minute later, Buchholz played a ball across the goal mouth and wide, resulting in a goal kick. That was pretty much the final threat. A little over 12 minutes into the half, Hannah Nix drove the ball deep to the right, forcing the keeper to come out and challenge. Nix calmly dropped the ball off to Williams who shot into the open goal. About a minute and a half later, it was Nix again starting the action. The sophomore played a pass through the defender’s legs to Emily Vogler who beat the keeper for a 4-0 lead. Two minutes later, Nix made a move past a defender and got behind the keeper who dragged her down in the box. Williams converted the penalty kick for her third goal. Finally, with just over three minutes to go, Evan England played a ball long to sweeper Anna Hall, who drew the keeper out and fired past her for the final, 6-0, margin. The Mosley girls were inspired by an article in the Gainesville Sun in which the Buchholz coach was quoted as saying Mosley could not beat his team. |
Feb 2, 2010 vs Niceville Mosley advanced to Friday's 5A region final with a convincing, 5-1, win over Niceville. The win over the district rival was the fourth of the season and the fifth in a row dating back to last year. Previously, Mosley had not beaten Niceville in eight years. Before perhaps the largest crowd of the year, the Dolphins dominated the Eagles throughout most of the contest. Junior forward Chelsey Williams showed that she is nearly 100 per cent after a December ankle injury and started the scoring at the 32:12 mark. Stopper Amber Gray popped a ball high and to Julia Bond who was sprinting down the left side. Bond fed the ball into the middle where Williams beat a defender and then slotted the ball past the keeper. Just over a minute later, a Dolphin was called for a handball in the box and the resulting penalty kick made the score 1-1. About 10 minutes later, Kat Vogler got loose past midfield, hauled in a pass from sister, Emily, and headed straight for goal. The Niceville keeper came out of the penalty area but was no match for Vogler who made one move and fired the ball into the right corner of the goal. Mosley kept the pressure up and only an outstanding play by a Niceville defender kept the Dolphins from scoring again with 12 minutes left in the half. Williams found herself with the ball in the penalty area, beat a defender and the keeper and sent a slow roller toward the net. An Eagle back slid into the goal and cleared the ball just before it rolled across the line. Williams would not be denied two minutes later. Hannah Nix drove the ball into the right corner, beat her defender and crossed the ball to Williams who, though covered, ripped a shot into the net for a 3-1 lead. In the last two minutes, Emily Vogler converted a free kick from 26 yards by driving it just over the keeper and the Dolphins went to the bench leading by three. The second half was played a little more evenly but a near mirror image of Kat Vogler's first goal provided the final margin. This time, Vogler took a through pass from Williams, slipped behind the defense, and again beat the keeper who had to come out of the penalty area in a failed attempt to stop the goal. Mosley has won 14 consecutive games. This is believed to be the first regional final in school history. |
Jan 28, 2010 vs Navarre - Regional Playoffs Mosley earned a spot in the regional semifinal with a tough, 1-0, win over Navarre. The Dolphins maintained possession for a percentage of the game. As evidenced by a 49-29 edge in throw-ins, the visiting team played the ball out continually in an effort to stymie the Dolphins. The lone goal came with about 9:32 left in the first half. Mosley worked the ball into the penalty area where several players had chances to strike. Emily Vogler found the keeper a little in front of her line and tapped a ball that appeared to be one rotation from crossing the goal line. That is when a Navarre defender tried to clear but blasted the ball into the side netting. Mosley stayed on the offensive and out-shot the Raiders 6-1 in the second half. Freshman Kady Kriner served up several booming corners and managed three shots of her own to help keep Navarre on the defensive for the last 40 minutes. In the regional semifinal, the Dolphins will play district rival Niceville for fourth time this season.

Jan 22, 2010 vs Niceville - District Finals Mosley won the district championship for the second consecutive year with a 3-2 win over host Niceville. This is the first year for a newly-formed district. Niceville had won seven championships in a row but was beaten by the Dolphins for the third time this season. Heavy rains and high humidity had left the field slippery and the team attacking at the end with better footing controlled each half. Mosley got on the board just 1:26 into the game when Chelsey Williams crossed to Kat Vogler who had only the keeper to beat. Niceville applied early pressure and took the Eagles' only corner of the night at the 3:40 mark. Anna Hall, celebrating her 18th birthday, cleared that chance and, along with Amber Gray, Jennifer Hickman, and Leah Vickers, held Niceville to only one shot on goal in the first half. Keeper Emily Grammer, back from an illness that kept her out of the semifinal, played balls throughout and outside the box to help blunt the attack. A Niceville foul about 25 yards from their goal set up an Emily Vogler free kick at the 7:19 mark and the sophomore blasted the ball past the wall and into the back of the net. With about four minutes left in the half, Jennifer Hickman's free kick from 35 yards was flicked across the six yard box by Williams and driven into the corner of the net by Hannah Nix. The shutout held four 14 minutes until Niceville played a ball from deep in the right corner to a teammate who banged the ball through. At the 21:34 mark, Julia Bond took what was Mosley's only shot of the second half. At 25:22, Grammer stopped a 1 v 1 12 yards off the line but was called for stepping over the line on the ensuing punt. Grammer stopped the hard shot that followed but the second half seemed filled with Mosley fouls and Niceville free kicks. Bond cleared another free kick with 10 minutes remaining, five minutes later, a Niceville shot after a handball call bounced of the corner of the goal post, and the Eagles finally converted another cross with just over two minutes left. Mosley successfully stopped every late Niceville attack and carried the trophy off the field as the champion. The Dolphins have won 12 in a row.

Jan 20, 2010 vs Crestview - District Semi Finals The Dolphins knocked off Crestiview for the third time this season to advance to the district 2-5A final. Mosley jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held on for a 4-2 victory on a night when there was playing time for everyone on the roster. Chelsey Williams saw her first action since the Christmas break and notched an assist. Freshman keeper Annie Henriquez saved three in her first varsity game. Other jayvee call-ups, Brie Campbell and Katie Geiger, got their first tastes of varsity action. Emily Vogler scored first followed by Leah Vickers conversion of a penalty kick. It was the first goal of the season for senior defender Vickers. The third Mosley score was by Hannah Nix, assisted by Anna Hall. In the second half, Williams fed Julia Bond who scored goal number four. The win was the 11th in a row for the Dolphins.

Jan 14, 2010 vs Lincoln The Mosley Dolphins spoiled Lincoln's senior night with a 10th consecutive victory. In the first half, the Dolphins out-shot the hosts, 8-2, but neither team could find the net and the game remained scoreless until the 29:22 mark of the second half. That is when Julia Bond fired a cross which Kady Kriner collected very close to the goal and bounced the ball over the keeper, who had gone to the ground. At 10:59, a Lady Trojan headed a corner high into the net for a tie. But Mosley struck back just one minute and 12 seconds later. Kriner's long run earned a corner which was delivered to Kat Vogler who punched the ball in. The Trojans played desparately the rest of the contest but managed only one more shot. The Dolphins scored again, inside the final two minutes. Hannah Nix, who consistently beat her defender and drove or lofted crosses in the box all night, sent one last to Kriner who received the ball just to the left of the goal. The freshman took her defender toward the corner, away from goal, then reversed, ran past the same defender and blasted the ball past the keeper. This was the first Mosley win in four games played in Tallahassee this season.
JV:
Win In a tense, closely fought contest, The Jr. Dolphins ended the season on a high note, putting up win number 10. Annie Henriquez had seven saves to keep the game even and it looked as if the game might end in a scoreless tie. Then, Kaitlyn Blais ripped a free kick into goal with under three minutes left. Mosley was able to defend the field until the final whistle. The JV ended the season 10-1-2. |
Jan 13, 2010 vs Arnold Mosley won for the ninth consecutive time, finishing the county season undefeated, having won each game by shutout. Arnold proved to be a stiff test, keeping Mosley off the scoreboard after two early Dolphin goals. The only corner kick of the first half led to the first score as Kat Vogler took Kady Kriner's cross and ran the ball straight to goal. A number of shots followed before Julia Bond played a ball far down the left sideline to Kriner, who beat two defenders before driving the ball inside the far post. The rest of the night, the Dolphins shot wide or over or at the Marlins' keeper but were unable to finish. Once again, the Mosley defense was stout, not allowing an Arnold shot until a corner at the 68 minute mark and another long shot a short time later. In the four county games, the Dolphins outshot(112-5) and outscored(22-0) the opponents, with nine different players scoring at least once. Mosley was playing the third game without leading scorer, Chelsey Williams, and the fifth without key midfielder, Emily Underhill. Williams may return for district play. Underhill is lost for the season. |
Jan 12, 2010 vs Leon Senior Night featured a half-time ceremony honoring Julia Bond, Anna Hall, Jennifer Hickman, Kat Vogler, and Leah Vickers. These five have helped the Dolphins to a 59-9-11 record and are a victory over Arnold away from claiming a fourth consecutive county championship. But, freshman Kady Kriner started the scoring 35 seconds into the game by taking an Emily Vogler pass and slipping it past the keeper to the far post. The next goal came about 18 minutes later when Emily Vogler dribbled half the field, shedding several defenders along the way, and passed to Kat Vogler, who dropped the ball Hannah Nix for the finish. Bond's shot from distance on the left side made the halftime score, 3-0. In the second half, Ellie Buttram crossed to Kat Vogler in the middle of the penalty area and Vogler drove the ball to the back of the net. Leon got on the board with a penalty kick--the Lions' only shot of the night--to make the score 4-1. Mosley responded with three more goals. Kat Vogler dribbled around the left side of the defense and fired a shot which bounced in off the frame. Emily Vogler scored twice, each time taking a cross from Nix, and collecting a rebound to beat the keeper. The Dolphins defense, led by Hall, Hickman, Vickers, and Amber Gray, completely controlled the action at their end and ensured Mosley's eighth consecutive win.
JV:
Win The Jr. Dolphins thoroughly dominated the Leon Lions in pushing the season record to 9-1-2. Molly Thompson, assisted by Haleigh Swift, began the scoring, followed by Brie Campbell's unassisted goal. Kristen Allen took a Kaitlyn Blais pass and beat the keeper to push the lead to 3-0. Next was Swift, assisted by Thompson. The final goal was the result of a good effort by Grace Underhill. She attempted to head a cross from Blais, then gathered the rebound and poked it across the end line. |
Jan 7, 2010 vs Rutherford The Dolphins remained perfect against county foes with another shutout win over Rutherford. The game was scoreless for almost 23 minutes before Emily Vogler headed-in a Julia Bond cross from deep in the corner. Vogler scored two more goals, assisted by Kat Vogler and Kady Kriner, to make the halftime score, 3-0. Ten and one-half minutes into the second half, Mary Ellen Garner played a Bond cross off her chest and into the goal. Five minutes later, Kat Vogler used a header to score on Amanda Singletary's corner. The sixth goal was a beautiful Bond to Hannah Nix to Singletary play. Bond then fired from the left, about 35 yards, high into the goal at the far post. Anna Hall finished the scoring by intercepting an errant Ram pass and dribbling the offensive third of the field before ripping the net from just inside the penalty area. |
Dec 16, 2009 vs Rutherford In a physical game, controlled throughout by Mosley, a Chelsey Williams goal 1:52 into the contest was the only score needed. Emily Vogler played a ball off the keeper and Williams alertly knocked it in for the score. In the 30th minute, an apparent Williams goal was waved-off after a handball call and the score remained, 1-0, at the half. In the eighth minute of the second half, the Rams were awarded a free kick which was on goal from over 30 yards out. That was Rutherford's only shot of the night while the Dolphins took 21. About two minutes later, Julia Bond and Chelsey Williams played give-and-go down the left side before Bond made it 2-0. At the 21:22 mark, Ellie Buttram passed down the left sideline to Hannah Nix who drove the ball into the corner and fired a goal to the far post. The final goal was scored by Amanda Singletary who cleaned-up a ball which the keeper first saved. |
Dec 15, 2009 vs Crestview The first half was played in a blowing rain which made the field almost unplayable after the JV match. Still, Mosley put up four goals before intermission. Julia Bond took a nice pass from Hannah Nix and put it past the keeper from the left side. Chelsey Williams, assisted by Emily Vogler, Nix, assisted by Jennifer Hickman, and Mary Ellen Garner, assisted by Bond, provided the margin after 40 minutes. Chelsey Williams took another pass from Emily Vogler and beat the keeper for the fifth goal. Emily Vogler powered her way past the defense for the final score. The Dolphins out-shot Crestview, 27-2, and controlled the contest throughout despite losing Emily Underhill to injury in the second half. Crestview's goal was on a long shot, from outside the penalty area. Mosley finished the district season undefeated and could take on Crestview for a third time at the year-end tournament.
JV:
Win On a rainy night on a sloppy field, the young Dolphins knocked off Crestview for the second time, 2-0. Brie Campbell, assisted by Mallory Mullins, scored first. Stormie Banks, assisted by Campbell, had the second goal. Mosley controlled the first half and played evenly in the second. Keeper Annie Henriquez had three saves. |
Dec 11, 2009 vs Bozeman A juggled line-up fought the cold and spitting rain to win the first match between the Dolphins and county rival Bozeman. Many of the usual starters took the first half off but the Mosley players on the field dominated the action and led, 5-0, at intermission. Amanda Singletary, assisted by Julia Bond, started the scoring four minutes into the contest. Next, it was Ellie Buttram, assisted by Kady Kriner. Then, Singletary, unassisted, Kriner, fed by Anna Hall, and Singletary, assisted by Buttram. The frozen six took the field for the second half, put on a passing exhibition, and quickly returned to the bench after Chelsey Williams set-up a Kat Vogler goal. Buttram added another goal, unassisted, and Singletary ended the game at the 27:36 mark with her fourth goal. Over all, Mosley out-shot the Bucks, 30-1. The Dolphins were the visiting team in this match but will play two home games on the same field. |
Dec 10, 2009 vs Fort Walton Beach Emily Vogler scored her third goal of the night seven minutes into the second half and the Dolphins wrapped up the number one seed in the district tournament with the mercy-rule win. Unlike the first game between Mosley and the Vikings, the Dolphins were able to control the contest from the start. Mosley’s defense and midfield, led by Anna Hall, Jennifer Hickman, Leah Vickers, Evan England, Amber Gray, Emily Underhill, and the Voglers, held FWB to only four shots, none from close range. The scoring started just over two minutes into the game when Emily Vogler took Kady Kriner’s corner kick and drove it past the keeper. About seven minutes later, Hannah Nix took a cross from Emily Vogler and made it 2-0. Another Kriner corner set-up another Emily Vogler goal. Less than 30 seconds later, Kriner collected a long ball from Nix and powered into the goal. Four minutes later, Kat Vogler fed Chelsey Williams to the left of goal and Williams drove the ball into the upper-90 on the right side. Nix fed Williams for another goal three minutes later, making the score 6-0 in less than 19 minutes. Ellie Buttram finished the first-half scoring, taking a wall pass from Jenna Jackson and working the touchline to drive the ball to the far post.
JV:
Win The Dolphins launched over 30 shots at the Vikings but several clanked off the posts and the Ft. Walton Beach keeper saved 16. Brie Campbell’s second goal, late in the contest, sealed the win. Molly Thompson fed Campbell about 20 yards from goal and Brie knifed through the defense and beat the keeper from inside five yards. Haleigh Swift assisted on the other goal. Starting keeper Annie Henriquez suffered an injury and sweeper Katie Geiger went into goal and made three saves. Henriquez was able to come back later in the game. She made four saves on the night. |
Dec 9, 2009 vs Port St. Joe Brie Campbell’s three goals and an assist led the way for the Dolphins in a 5-0 defeat of Port St. Joe’s varsity. Mosley controlled the game throughout. The defense, anchored by sweeper Katie Geiger, rarely allowed the Sharks to penetrate into shooting position. Emily Cureton chipped in a goal and an assist. Taylor Gilmore scored and Molly Thompson added an assist. |
Dec 7, 2009 vs Niceville Mosley moved to 4-0 in district play with the second victory over Niceville. Played before a lively crowd, which included sign-waving students, the Dolphins won a physical contest to open a two-game district lead. The scoring began with a Chelsey Williams penalty kick after Kady Kriner was knocked to the ground in the box. About nine minutes later, Williams gathered a ball which was not cleared by the Eagles defense and fired it past the keeper. Just before halftime, Williams crossed a ball from the left which was driven into goal by Kat Vogler. Niceville scored on a free kick from 35 yards to make the score, 3-1 after 40 minutes. The second half featured plenty of good defense by Anna Hall, Leah Vickers, Jennifer Hickman, and Amber Gray. Niceville scored on a penalty kick to draw to within 3-2 but all other efforts were turned back.
JV:
Loss The younger Dolphins suffered their first loss of the season dropping a hard-fought contest to district rival Niceville. Mosley kept the prerssure on the Eagles for much of the second half but could not put one in the net. Annie Henriquez had five saves in goal. |
Dec 5, 2009 Timber Wolf Classic The Dolphins fell, to the fourth-ranked 4A team, in the opener of the Chiles Timberwolf Classic. In a game played in a steady downpour which left the field in poor condition, Mosley could not convert on a precious few early opportunities and Jensen Beach scored the only goal necessary at the 18 minute mark. A second Jensen Beach goal skipped through the mud into the net five minutes before half-time. The Dolphins put two shots on goal in the second half but were shut out for the second time this season.
Varsity:
Loss Playing a second time this season on a turf field, the Dolphins managed only a Chelsey Williams penalty kick, 28 minutes into the second half. The PK was earned by Hannah Nix who made a strong run into the penalty area where she was taken down on a hard foul. After a scoreless first half, Flagler, the No. 6 team in 6A, converted a long cross, with a header, only 1:18 into the second half. Another cross was slotted in at 6:23. The final margin was provided by a powerful corner with two minutes left. |
Nov 19, 2009 vs Crestview The Dolphins outshot the visitors 37-1 on the way to a District 2-5A victory. Mosley swept the three district opponents in the first round and is now 3-0. Crestview packed eight into the defensive half most of the night and held Mosley scoreless until Kat Vogler finished off a long run and pass by Anna Hall by beating the keeper from in front of the goal. Leading only 1-0 at the half, the Dolphins stretched the defense in the final 40 minutes. Chelsey Williams volleyed a Julia Bond corner kick for the second goal and followed with an unassisted score later. Emily Vogler, assisted by Amber Gray, made it 4-0. Ellie Buttram blasted a shot from twenty yards for the final score.
JV:
Win Haleigh Swift had two goals to lead the Dolphins to a 5-0-1 record. In a game that began an hour late due to lack of referees, the jayvee girls found themselves down, 1-0, for the first time this season. Kaitlyn Blais assisted Swift on the insurance goal in the second half. |
Nov 17, 2009 vs Niceville The newly seventh-ranked Dolphins did not get a shot until the 22d minute against the fourth-ranked Niceville Eagles and had to withstand two free kicks in expanded time to go into halftime 0-0. With six minutes left in the contest, Emily Vogler took a long pass from Chelsey Williams, ran past one defender and slotted the winning shot past the keeper. The Dolphins withstood a furious Eagle attack in the closing minutes, Emily Grammer making a blocking save on a point-blank shot and defender Leah Vickers clearing a shot from the goal mouth to preserve the win.
JV:
Win Brie Campbell’s two goals led the young Dolphins to a 4-0-1 record. The first goal was a penalty kick. The second was assisted by Kaitlyn Blais. Keeper Annie Henriquez posted the shutout. |

The Vikings scored a late goal to provide the final margin.

Harders Park was soccer central as county rival Bay High played on the next field. Williams took a long, angled pass from Emily Underhill and scored the first Dolphins goal of the season just 3:20 into the first half. Mosley controlled the action for the first 40 minutes and took a 2-0 lead at the half, after a second Williams goal, assisted by Hannah Nix. Gulf Breeze scored just before the water break but the Dolphins held on for the victory. Superb back defense led by Anna Hall, Leah Vickers, Evan England, and Jennifer Hickman minimized the Gulf Breeze chances and keeper Emily Grammer made five saves. Regional Semi - Finals @ Tommy Oliver Stadium Feb 3, 2009
|
Regional Quarter- Finals Jan.29, 2009 The Dolphins advanced to the regional semifinal by ousting Pace to set up a fourth match against Chiles. Mosley will host that game on Feb. 3. Chelsey Williams started the scoring by netting a ball which bounced off the post. The play began with a long throw-in by Jennifer Hickman which Williams gathered and shot. Ten minutes later, Pace got on the board after a corner was headed in. The tie seemed to motivate the Dolphins who began to control play and stepped up the offense. Emily Vogler made a long run and beat the keeper, one-on-one, and scored again, taking a long Rebecca Mellerski throw-in, past the defense, and driving to goal. The halftime score was 3-1 and the Dolphins never looked back. A Chelsey Williams goal, less than two minutes into the second half pretty much settled the issue. The Mosley defense, led by Mallory Bond, Sidney Perles, Jennifer Hickman, Anna Hall, and Leah Vickers, allowed only one Patriot chance in the second half. The final score was provided by Hannah Nix, assisted by Julia Bond. |
District Finals Jan. 23, 2009
Before an excited Tommy Oliver Stadium crowd, which included many members of the Mosley boys' team, the Dolphins won the District title with a 2-0 win over Chiles. This was the third, tough game of the year between the top two teams in District 2-5A. The previous results were a 1-0 Mosley win, in Tallahassee, and a 1-1 tie at Harders Park. The always stout Dolphins defense held Chiles without a shot on goal in the first half, which ended with no score. Chiles earned a corner kick less than one minute into the second half but the kick sailed over the goal. About four minutes into the half, Hannah Nix made a run to the corner, out-fought a defender, and sent a hard cross which Chelsey Williams nudged past a defender and the keeper for a 1-0 lead. Less than one minute later, Chiles put its first shot on goal. Mosley dominated the run of play for most of the half but had to fight off a frenzied Timberwolves attack in the last four minutes. Two Chiles free kicks were defended and a Hannah Nix goal with about two minutes left sealed the win. Nix took Kat Vogler's pass down the right sideline, ran past a defender, and shot just past the keeper for the 2-0 margin. The Dolphins are 20-0-1 and will host Pace, January 29th, in the Region quarterfinal. |
